Updating the Geomatics Engineering Program at University of Guanajuato, Mexico.
Track: Teaching with GIS in Higher Education
Authors: Javier Rubio

University of Guanajuato, in Guanajuato State, central part of Mexico, is reviewing her undergraduate program in Geomatics Engineering. This program started ten years ago in the Engineering Department, where different schools participate: Surveying, Civil, Environmental, Mining, Geology, and Agricultural Engineering. Since these schools are in different locations, it has been difficult to concentrate the GIS labs, and trained professors. Due a bigger support, the Geomatics program is closer to Surveying and Environmental. Nowadays the University is looking for articulate a more interdisciplinary GIS program that can serve a larger University community and it can enrich from the different disciplines. This is a great challenge since funds for new labs and trained professors are limited. This project presents the efforts for restructuring the curricula for Geomatics Engineering, updating it towards the best practices and the new Web and ArcGIS technology. We would like to receive feedback from the EdUC participants.
