Abstract

Mathematics and GIS in Valparaíso, Chile
Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools
Authors: Gustavo Moreira

The idea is to contextualize the resolution of problems in a geographical setting that is familiar to the teacher and his students, such as your neighborhood.

If the school is located in Valparaiso, problems to solve are referred only to that city. Valparaiso is similar to San Francisco, with many hills, so the use of "contours" or the calculation of the "slope" will be using the streets that the student goes through to come to your school, or the elevator of the hill where he lives. Learning activities will be evaluated by teachers at a meeting organized by the Catholic University of Valparaiso at March.

A positive result will be packaged into projects for implementation in schools that supports the University.
