Teaching Physical Geography using ArcGIS

Thirteen lab exercises were developed to teach introductory physical geography class using ArcGIS software. The purpose of this exercises is to teach a general education material to none GIS-Geography majors while exposing them to the GIS software and analysis. The lab exercises include the following topics: Location, coordinates, scales and measurements
Data collection and base map creation, fundamentals of remote sensing, earth's surface temperature,Precipitation and storm development, hurricane development,
Landscape analysis, Mountain landscape, drainage patterns and drainage systems, Stream-flow and discharge calculation, soil mapping, Ecosystem analysis, Land cover change, Climate change.
The presentation also discuss the possibilities of using this material for a course in environmental applications of GIS
