The North East Area Development (NEAD) agency is training and employing City of Rochester students to take a more active role in their community. NEAD is responsible for distributing housing repair and business development funds within their service area. Using GIS and handheld devices, the students are conducting field surveys in their neighborhood. Surveys include recording structure conditions and items in need of repair (i.e. steps, siding, roof, etc). The data is then mapped and used for strategic planning by NEAD, their constituents and the City.
While gaining valuable skills and experience, the Students are proud to provide a valuable service to their community.
