Abstract
How to Teach a Lab Without a Text (Well, almost)
Track: User Presentations - Learning and Research
Authors: Carol Cady, Dakota Casserly
Students often find the traditional lecture and tutorial lab as ineffective for learning GIS. Instead a lecture, a tutorial text, and a group project without written instructions provides a more dynamic and engaging experience. Students approach a project with the necessary skill set and are encouraged to overcome obstacles by asking questions and taking initiative. Students leave the comfort zone of a written guide, build new GIS skills, and improve problem solving.
