Track: Lightning Talk - Learning and Research

The Appalachian Mtn. region of Virginia is a biodiversity hotspot. The area is home to thousands of animal, plant and fungal species. Several are endemic and/or threatened or endangered species, yet documentation of the local species distribution is incomplete. We are using a multidisciplinary GIS, service learning, citizen science approach to augment existing data, promote GIS and biodiversity awareness, and make local species distribution information more complete and readily accessible.
