Building a GIS for K-12 School Planning and Facilities Management

The Albuquerque Public Schools District employs GIS for planning and facilities management. This paper will present an overview of the in-house GIS program utilized by the district. Topics covered include initial construction and compilation of the GIS data; methods used to geocode students accurately with emphasis on developing the geocoding location data; examples of GIS analysis used for enrollment projections,identifying unauthorized student transfers and implementing boundary changes.
