The grade progression model often is used to forecast school enrollment for geographical units such as attendance areas. This type of model is based on historic enrollment trends and tracks the change in the size of a grade cohort over time, for example the ratio of a school’s grade two enrollment compared to grade one enrollment in the previous year. This paper describes how this model can be implemented using grid modeling and explores the advantages and disadvantages of the grid approach.
