Abstract
You Figure it Out – Using Web GIS to Challenge Undergraduate Students
Track: Learning and Research Lightning Talk
Authors: Scott Rutzmoser
Lehigh University uses a custom web map (ArcGIS JSAPI) for Environmental Science 223. Students share fictitious data sets including earth quakes, and sediments. They budget to collect additional data including magnetic anomalies and core samples. They use their data to calculate spreading rates, find spreading centers, and reconstruct the historic ocean basin. Students work outside the classroom. The project removes hurtles of teaching complex software and emphasizes data analysis.
