Budgeting for Equity: GIS Analysis of School Location

OUSD undertook an extensive GIS analysis of community stress factors around schools sites. Indicators included crime, unemployment, vacancy, food access, income and health. The work identified those schools in Oakland facing the greatest challenges to providing a safe and secure environment for students to learn. The new California Local Control Funding Formula allocated additional funds to these schools to mitigate the stress factors impacting their performance.
