Abstract
The Geography of Scale Effects in School Performance
Track: Administration and Policy Lightning Talk

The paper looks at the Academic Performance Index (API) of California schools. Schools are geocoded to identify the school district and the municipality in which they are located.
Both Ordinary Least Squares Regression and Geographically Weighted Regression are employed to determine the strength and significance of the factors that determine API, and how various scale effects – in the enrollment of the school, the size of the district, and the size of the budget – are distributed geographically.
