Geospatial Open Courses: Outreach and Professional Development

A handful of geospatially-oriented MOOCs or Ongoing Open Courses (OOCs) have been offered over the last few years. Recently, more are in the mainstream suggesting an effort to solicit collaboration of geospatial technologies into other disciplines and intrigue those not aware of the geospatial movement. This presentation provides a history of geospatial open courses and suggests that professional development may not be the only motivational factor for offering such a free course.
