Integrating Geospatial Tools into the Chemistry Curriculum

Students find spectroscopy difficult. These inquiry labs introduce remote sensing concepts via collection and analysis of reflectance data using inexpensive ALTA Spectrometers. Students gather materials to analyze in lab with land use information using ArcGIS Collector, then collect reflectance data, create maps with ArcGIS Online, and interpret results. ArcGIS 10.2 is used for follow up exercises. Students demonstrated better understanding of absorption spectroscopy on subsequent labs.
