Abstract
Off-Campus Energy: Environmental Studies and GIS in Action
Track: Learning and Research Lightning Talk
Authors: Kristin Bott
Since the course’s inception (2013), GIS has been central to our interdisciplinary Environmental Studies seminar. In a term-long class research project, GIS enables students to dive deeper into the complex issues of the science and policy of climate change. At the end of the project, students present actionable research to community partners. Past projects have endeavored to inform Portland’s energy conservation initiatives (2013) and the future of a local coal-burning power plant (2014).
