Multiplying Your Library Staff Through Student Mentorship

To dramatically increase services without hiring additional staff members, the GIS/Data Center (GDC) at Rice University implemented an innovative library student staffing model. Library student assistants are now assigned formal job titles, allowing them to provide leadership in the daily operations of the GDC, teach GIS courses, provide GIS consultations to their peers, and provide GIS research services to university faculty and local organizations.
