This paper is based on a collaborative project conducted by the MA in Geography in Education and the MSc in GIS at University College London on the role of geospatial technologies in supporting geography education at Masters Level. The research uses ArcGIS online in constructing materials on a place-based project on hazard mitigation. Results reveal new perspectives on the ‘emancipatory’ role of ‘new media GIS’ in designing the contemporary school geography curriculum.
