Abstract
High School Drone Challenge! Building, Flying, and (Sometimes) Crashing
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Ken Yanow
The Sweetwater Union High School District in Chula Vista, CA developed a UAS competition. Student teams from schools in the District built drones from kits developed by a local engineer from the U.S. Navy Naval Air Systems Command. Students used 3D printers to print components, and then assembled their drones (modifying if needed). Teams flew their drones through an obstacle course and with a payload. What are the benefits of the competition, and, how can you do the same thing at your school?
