Building bridges between underserved neighborhoods and the University, SMU interdisciplinary student teams help develop innovative solutions that move beyond the classroom to impact local communities. The paper will discuss some pitfalls of the engagement process, emphasize the potential of local success, its capacity to help break down barriers between city and academy, to bring together concepts of green infrastructure with engagement, and to connect students with their own creative potential.
