Abstract
Entry Points for Geospatial Technology within Rural Contexts of K-12 Education
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Rebecca Theobald, Shannon White
We need more educators knowledgeable about geospatial technology to expose, guide, and inspire K-12 students to use GIS. Engagement with geography content increases interest in identifying ways to incorporate spatial concepts into classrooms. What has not worked? Trying to integrate GIS into STEM schools and computer technology pathways. What has worked? Delivering local professional development and school visits of Giant State Maps and connecting GIS professionals and educators in rural areas.
