Abstract
Periphery to Curriculum: Incorporating GIS into History Undergraduate Programs
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Fernando Amador II
The field of History is classified as a social science and humanities. Although History incorporates methodologies from both fields, it has yet to include GIS into the undergraduate curriculum like most social sciences. My presentation asks why GIS remains in the peripheries for History departments. Collecting data from history programs across the US as well as reports and discussions with professors and students, I discuss why departments have not incorporated GIS and why that should change.
