Youth-Led Spatial Analysis of Environmental Impacts on Health and Well-being

How does the built environment impact children’s health? What in a neighborhood encourages play or promote safety? What makes for a good park? Some of the questions 24 high school students tackled as part of the GRACE GIS summer internship program. Using ESRI mobile GIS products, students collected 112,000 observations about their neighborhood and used spatial analytical techniques including kriging, MCDA, regression, and cluster analysis to create StoryMaps to share with community leaders.
