Death in the Age of GeoLocation: Mapping the West Lead Cemetery

The West Lead Cemetery in South Dakota does not have a perpetual care provision. Records are poorly managed and decades out of date. Students GPSed data, developed a data dictionary, merged paper records, and created public files through ArcGIS online to create an updated map of the cemetery. It preserves data for sextons, historians, genealogists, demographers, local government, and fraternities, while creating experience with GIS project design and management for undergraduate students.
