Abstract
Making Environmental Community Connections through GIS–based Service Learning
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Kiki Patsch, Cynthia Hartley
A key mission pillar at California State University Channel Islands is to provide experiential service-learning to our undergraduates. Our growing environmental geo-spatial program is proving to be a catalyst for class and student engagement with state agencies and NGOs. Through class projects, independent research, and internships, our students are assisting with storm-water compliance, mapping endangered species, and creating story maps for public outreach.
