Abstract
Landsat Images Reveal a History of Cyanobacteria Blooms on Utah Lake
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Shanae Tate
Cyanobacteria blooms have occurred on Utah Lake for decades, but little is known about why they occur. Beaches surrounding Utah Lake have closed for two consecutive years due to the presence of toxins released by cyanobacteria. This project uses the Landsat Archive, GIS, and remote sensing to detect algal blooms from the 1980’s until now. This compilation of historic data will reveal the conditions in which they occur and what can be done to manage them.<br />
