Abstract
Bridging Students’ Personal Worlds to Earth Science with GIS and STEAM
Track: Teaching and Research
Authors: Jonee Brigham
The 6th grade “Rain Drain Pollution Solution” project goal was to engage students with GIS while teaching about stormwater pollution prevention. The prototype piloted approaches including: (1) A personal playground exercise to introduce GIS skills by bridging to places already important to students; (2) An altered beta version of the ESRI crowdsource app to create an outdoor “Notice and Wonder” exercise; (3) A story map to share student research and document the students’ stormwater journey.
