Base Operation Support using GIS

The UK Ministry of Defence is one of the four largest land owners in the country with some 240,000 hectares of land and buildings. DEO have implemented a GIS based upon ArcInfo to assist in the management of the Military Estate. Objectives for the system include the timely provision of information to support the optimum use of the estate, maximise income from sales/leasing, reduce maintenance costs, aid the maximum use of training land balanced with environmental issues.
