Coast Guard Enterprise GIS: Enterprise Solutions Using ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Server

—Mike Lakey, United States Coast Guard

The Coast Guard Enterprise GIS Program was established to support the core missions of the United States Coast Guard by supplying critical GIS data, services, and functionality to a wide variety of Coast Guard systems and users. Over the past eight years, the Enterprise GIS Development Team has developed numerous enterprise-wide solutions for the Coast Guard, including: geospatial data warehousing, server-based geoservices, and thin client and browser-based applications. The Development Team recently completed a major overhaul of many of the Enterprise GIS "legacy" solutions, deploying an entirely new suite of applications and services based on the ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Server development platforms. This presentation will discuss how the team leveraged the ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Server technologies to create customized sets of displays, services, and advanced geoprocessing tools and functions available to all GIS users in the Coast Guard.
