Strategic Engagement: DISDI Program and the Homeland Security/Homeland Defense Community

—Rhett Rebold, ODUSD (I&E) BEI DISDI Program

As the OSD touch point for DoD Installation and Range geospatial data, the DISDI Group is deepening its engagement with the Homeland Security/Homeland Defense community. The Service IGI&S Programs, led by the DISDI Group, are the authoritative source for all geospatial data contained within DoD fence lines. Thus, DISDI serves an ombudsman-like role between the Homeland Security/Homeland Defense community's requirements and IGI&S' capabilities and products. Recent advancements include upgrading DISDI's web based geospatial portal by improving both data visibility and data discovery through its metadata search tool. Other actions include the Program's production of the comprehensive and authoritative spatial data set depicting Military Installations, Ranges, Training Areas, air space, and sea space. This data set will be released in early 2010 including a non-sensitive version of which will be made public. It will also be used to update the community's next release of the HSIP Gold data set.
