Powering an Efficient Geospatial Data Sharing Framework with Spatial ETL

—Don Murray, Safe Software

There is increasing pressure for government agencies to share accurate and up-to-date geospatial information with other agencies and public end-users. As spatial data can be stored in disparate formats and data models, it can be very challenging to fuse data together for an integrated view so this information can be easily shared with others who need to access and use this information. This session will take an in-depth look at the common data interoperability challenges faced by government agencies, as well as demonstrate how spatial ETL (extract, transform and load) can facilitate efficient data exchange and improve access to spatial data for public and private end-users. Through case study examples and demonstrations, this presentation will illustrate how government agencies, including the Ohio Department of Transportation and Indiana Department of Homeland Security, are using spatial ETL today to power SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) and other data sharing initiatives. Attendees will leave this presentation with achievable strategies for removing common data interoperability challenges that prevent the easy exchange of geospatial data originating from disparate systems, formats and models. Best practices for enabling easier access, use and dissemination of geospatial data between local, state and federal agencies and with public end users will also be discussed.
