As geospatial technology continues to evolve, the lines between "mapper" and "GIS technician" are becoming blurred. Robust acquisition technologies and sophisticated software are expanding the range of end-user applications and broadening the ability of GIS users to exploit geospatial source data for maximized returns on geospatial investments. The recent collaboration between Fugro EarthData and Esri PurVIEW demonstrates this evolution. PurVIEW is an integrated image display and map compilation software operating within the ArcGIS environment. Customized to incorporate dual-band IFSAR data from Fugro EarthData's unique GeoSAR dual-band radar mapping system, PurVIEW not only streamlines an otherwise complicated topographic map production process, but also allows GIS users to more fully exploit the radar datasets by visualizing and mapping features specific to X- and P-band frequencies. This presentation will describe the GeoSAR/PurVIEW approach to radar data exploitation in an ArcGIS environment. We will demonstrate real, third-party examples and explore multiple federal-user applications.
