Joint Geospatial Intelligence Transformation

—Wendy Creighton, Booz Allen Hamilton

Thinking geospatially is the type of transformation that the geospatial intelligence team at USJFCOM is working to institutionalize across the force to better support the joint warfighter. Together, a team of JFCOM and NGA personnel are working to analyze current geospatial intelligence activities and bring combatant commands (COCOMS), services, and agencies together to formulate joint requirements and joint solutions that extend and enhance multi-directional geospatial intelligence support to the lowest tactical level and back. The team's efforts have evolved into a series of activities that have included concept development, experimentation, and recommendations for doctrine, organization, training and education actions to transform GEOINT support to Joint operations. We will highlight the progress that has been made to include JROCM 134-08 "Joint GEOINT Transformation". We will also explore the work that still remains including the revision of JP 2-03 and establishment of GEOINT Cells, GEOINT in JPME curriculum and the introduction of three GEOINT training courses for the joint warfighter. We will also discuss the continued experimentation of joint GEOINT concepts in events such as Empire Challenge that continue to refine this process.
