The Framework component of the U.S. National Spatial Data Infrastructure refers to those geospatial data themes identified as the foundation upon which all other data layers are structured and integrated for a specific analysis or geographic domain. The U.S. Federal Geographic Data Committee has developed the Framework Data Standard as a means to specify a minimal level of data content that data producers, consumers, and vendors are expected to use for the interchange of framework data. Each of the standards includes an integrated application schema which specifies feature and attribute types, attribute domain, feature relationships, spatial representation, data organization, and metadata defining the data set's information content. Standards implementation requires understanding of the Unified Modeling Language and metadata interchange file formats. This presentation reviews new, multi-mode training resources developed to educate end users on the core concepts of the Standard and strategies for its implementation.
