The rate of water usage in Central Texas has exceeded the rate of the ability of the local aquifers to keep up. The current situation has become unsustainable. Water management has become a key issue for Cities and Counties in Central Texas. The use of dams to promote recharge is under investigation in the region and in other parts of the world. GIS can be used to determine the location of current dams and the most effective location of future dams.
