ChesapeakeStat: Integrating GIS with Performance Management

—John Wolf, U.S. Geological Survey

ChesapeakeStat is a web-accessible interactive program management and accountability tool aimed at furthering the goals of the Chesapeake Bay restoration effort. The tool, which is being developed jointly by the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) and Esri, will provide access to information about implementation strategies, priorities, and activities; resource allocations; and progress toward reaching goals and milestones. Information in ChesapeakeStat is derived from the CBP Strategic Framework, data assembled via the Chesapeake Registry, and a suite of environmental indicators. As such, ChesapeakeStat serves an important role of providing an up-to-date, transparent, web accessible manifestation of Chesapeake Bay Program restoration and conservation objectives and progress towards goals. ChesapeakeStat, which is built using ArcGIS Server and the Flex API, is patterned after the Esri prototype "FedStat," which was presented at the 2009 FedUC, and Maryland's BayStat web application.
