The United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) manages the nation's crop and cropland data. Each year, FSA county employees spend nearly 400 hours per county to create farm maps to assist producers with crop reporting. To make the mapping process standard and more efficient, we created an FSA MapSeries tool for ArcMap 9.2 based on Esri's mapbook application. The FSA MapSeries allows for the bulk production of maps for individual farms and tracts in pdf or jpeg format, and it also conforms to 2008 Farm Bill requirements to protect personally identifiable information. The FSA MapSeries reduces map making time to < 4 hours per county. This presentation will demonstrate the features of the FSA MapSeries tool and how it can potentially save over $12 million nationwide for mapping for each crop reporting season.
