Steven Overbat, Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor
The Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor (CSSC) brings together ten partners in three states to ensure a successful BRAC implementation at Aberdeen Proving Ground and high quality of life for existing and future residents who live and work in our growing defense community. A web-based GIS application has been recognized as a critical planning tool that can be used to understand the geographic complexities associated with Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and make informed decisions to help adjust to this change. This application was recently realized, using the latest in ArcGIS Server technology to provide planners, community leaders, and the general public a rich mapping platform for asking questions about the community. Through a map format, users can search for properties of interest, query information, and develop detailed reports summarizing service levels for properties. This project brought an almost unprecedented level of coordination and serves as a model of how federal, state, and local government agencies can work together to implement initiatives that encompass various levels and aspects of government.
