Economic Impact Analysis Using GIS and SharePoint

In response to the U.S. Navy's need to communicate its economic impact to local community, state, and national stakeholders and policy makers, the Economic Impact Assessment solution uses Federal authoritative data sources and employs data automation routines and commercial technology to provide a geospatial display of the Navy's economic impact of it's shore installation within U.S. continental regions. Through the integration of Microsoft SQL Server, Excel Services, SharePoint 2007, and ESRI's ArcGIS end users are provided with a capability to dynamically select, query, and view accurate economic impact results in an interactive map display via an enterprise portal. The result is timely and accurate information for decision makers. This solution demonstrates how Federal agencies can use authoritative data sources, and off-the-shelf technologies to deliver Geospatial data analysis capabilities via a MS SharePoint Portal that provides end users with capabilities to dynamically query results via maps, charts, and graphs.
