Leveraging your GIS as a Collaborative Platform

GIS is STEM: Maryland's Statewide GIS Initiative

At the start of 2010, all 24 Maryland school systems signed on to a grant that required the use of Geographic Information Systems. One of the resulting outcomes of this initiative was a state-wide license agreement for ArcGIS 9.3.1. Five regional centers were established to train 155 teachers representing grades 4th-8th. While developing GIS skills was a focus, it was used as a tool for students to experience complex science and math content.
