GIS Web Applications and Products at NOAA/NESDIS/OSPO

—Hongming Qi, DOC/NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD/SSD

Geographical Information System (GIS) applications are very useful tools for analyzing and displaying satellite derived products. NOAA/NESDIS/OSPO utilizes ESRI software to build the web map applications for displaying the Fire/Smoke and Snow/Ice analyzed products. These products are derived and analyzed from various satellite imageries like NOAA GOES and POES. The near real-time analyzed products are displayed on web through ESRI software. The public users are able to learn the updated status and impacted areas of special event from the above web mapping application. In addition, NOAA has lots of real-time satellite imageries and observation data such as temperature, pressure, wind speed and direction etc. NOAA/NESDIS/OSPO is converting these observation data and imageries into GIS products that are available for all GIS users. It is very helpful for GIS users who are interested in real-time observed environmental data and satellite imageries.
