Building National Spatial Data Infrastructures

Introduction to the Geospatial Platform and a Spatially Enabled Data.gov

—Karen Siderelis, DOI Geographic Information Officer; Jerry Johnston PhD, EPA Geographic Information Officer

Open Government, cloud computing and our National Spatial Data Infrastructure efforts are converging at an exciting time to support an informed and efficient government. Two key efforts in this convergence are the geo-enabling of Data.gov and the emergence of the Geospatial Platform. Is this the game changer we have been preparing for? After a history of similar initiatives, stakeholders in the geospatial community are asking "What's different about the Geospatial Platform and how does Data.gov fit in?" Attend this series of sessions to explore this dual question.

This kick off session will set the stage and share the vision, goals, and objectives of the Geospatial Platform and what it means to your organization and update you on planned enhancements to Data.gov. Learn how the Geospatial Platform will be managed, how the resources will be packaged. Working smart includes leveraging and extending past knowledge and investments, like taking the best of geodata.gov and migrating it into Data.gov. Extending further, how can Data.gov bring value to the Geospatial Platform? Can the geospatial community make this a winning strategy to deliver an open and transparent government and engage citizens? Will a Geospatial Platform enabling the public and private sector entrepreneurs build the next generation of applications to help decision making? Attend this session and join the discussion and shape the future.
