Mapping the Enbridge Oil Spill

—Carmen Maso, USEPA

In July 2010; a 30 inch pipeline ruptured releasing approximately 800,000 gallons into a culvert leading to Talmadge Creek. Talmadge Creek leads to the Kalamazoo River in Michigan. EPA assumed a leadership role in the Unified Command and mobilized an Incident Management Team (IMT) made up of federal, state and local agencies. This presentation will provide an overview of how GIS was implemented within the IMT and lessons learned from an inland waterway Oil Spill incident.
