National Levee Database Rollout

Beginning in FY06 the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) received the mandate and resources to design and assemble a National Levee Database (NLD). In FY07 the development of the levee database model was completed. This data model was coordinated with FEMA and pilot collection was conducted on five districts in FY2007 (3256 miles of levees). Once the pilot collection was completed inventory and project data collection was initiated in nine additional districts. A total of 9400 miles of approximately 14,000 miles of Corps program levees will have been inventoried. Geospatial and other collected data that are part of the NLD will be available to project stakeholders through a worldwide-web accessible application. Components include a summary screen with a project history and related links, a map interface for viewing geospatial data, reporting and data mining tools, and a help section. This presentation will highlight the status of the NLD including the database design, the data collection efforts, and Corps developed software and training for inspection, management.
