The NPMS: Historical tracking for US DOT's pipeline data

PHMSA, the pipeline and hazardous materials safety administration of the U.S. DOT, is developing an enhanced ArcServer application for its pipeline data. The pipeline data has been converted to a linear referencing format to enable integration with tabular datasets in PHMSA's Oracle-based datamart, such as inspection boundaries and accident points. PHMSA is also building history for the pipeline data, enabling the user to view information about a pipeline without knowing its operator for a given period. The new application will improve PHMSA's ability to track its regulatory assets and to view changes in the nation's pipeline infrastructure over time.
