TOXMAP: Environmental Health Maps Now Powered by ArcGIS Server

—Darren Gemoets, Aquilent, Inc.

TOXMAP (http://toxmap.nlm.nih.gov) is a Web-based environmental health resource developed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM/NIH) that helps users visually explore data from the EPA's Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Superfund Programs. TOXMAP overlays US Census demographic and NCI mortality data, and links to authoritative chemical and health information from the NLM, EPA, and CDC.

NLM has undertaken development of a "next generation" of TOXMAP using ArcGIS Server Enterprise Standard 10 and Adobe Flex. This version supplements and will later replace the legacy ArcIMS version that has been public-facing since September, 2004. This session will discuss TOXMAP old and new, describe development challenges, and cover some "lessons learned" in migrating a Web application from ArcIMS to ArcGIS Server with Flex.
