U.S. Navy GeoReadiness Integration and Standardization

—Darrell Robertson and Ed Riegelmann, United States Navy

The United States Navy has established a GeoReadiness program capability led by NAVFAC HQ to provide, build, sustain, and advance Navy capabilities to support its shore installation management mission. This innovative enterprise geospatial information and technology program serves all Navy installations worldwide. The principal challenge of this effort is to geo-enable mission processes for Navy shore installation managers and process owners. The program is accelerating these efforts by leveraging joint service data standards, the latest in multi-platform GIS technologies, a unique centralized data warehouse, regional web-based mapping solutions, and a forward-looking web services based architecture. The vision for these efforts is to establish a shareable geospatial information infrastructure that provides GIS and location-based solutions for every applicable business process. In this presentation, we will provide an update on the progress of the Navy GeoReadiness program, lessons learned from our enterprise implementation, and innovations that have come from these efforts.
