Best Practices for Mission Applications

Using GeoMiler and the multi-modal network to support federal transportation applications

—Stephen Lewis, U.S. Department of Transportation

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) relies on commercial geospatial road-and-street network data to support the mission of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (RITA/BTS). NAVTEQ map data is being integrated with geospatial transportation networks and facilities to enable a multi-modal network that supports routing within the RITA/BTS application, GeoMiler. The GeoMiler application develops core multi-modal routing models for domestic and export shipments for various transportation systems including sea ports, airports, railways and roads. This presentation will focus on the benefits of using commercial off-the-shelve street data to fulfill the needs of the U.S. DOT constituencies.
