Technical Workshop

Introduction to Spatial Analysis for Geospatial Intelligence

—Chris Belson, Esri

This session will focus on the concept of creating risk surfaces for use in site suitability and cross-country mobility models. This session will introduce attendees to the basic concepts of using the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension and geointelligence information to analyze and model risk/threat phenomena. These models provide response alternatives for evaluation. Understanding these concepts will allow users to develop suitability models that incorporate risk concerns in selecting potential desirable/undesirable sites. Risk surfaces can be incorporated in cross-country mobility analysis to determine suitable routes based on both terrain considerations and potential threat to travel. Use of Spatial Analyst extension tools and map algebra to support this analysis will be discussed. The flexibility of these models provides experts with the capability to test the impact of changes in input criteria and data used in building a model.

Once the concepts are understood, creating a model is easy.
