Using ArcGIS for Military Planning and Operations

—Darren Baird and Lorraine Funkhouser, Esri

Planners use maps to develop and communicate concepts, plans, and designs. Maps support the military decision-making process and inform the commander and staff of enemy intentions and friendly activities. Planners analyze information about the weather, enemy, and terrain in order to evaluate the effectiveness of plans or feasibility of a specific operation. We will demonstrate

  • Map templates and layer packages used to support planning
  • Maps used for status reports and management of current intelligence
  • How field operators can use maps on mobile devices to collect information about local infrastructure, enemy disposition, or key terrain.
