Sharing Data to protect Critical Infrastructure in Southern California (NAPSG)
Track: Critical Infrastructure Protection
Authors: Xenophon (Yo) Gikas

This session will explore how five counties in southern California are working together through the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NAPSG) to create a robust regional GIS capacity by leveraging existing GIS and public safety practitioner assets in support of critical infrastructure protection priorities across the region.

NAPSG points to five elements key to successful implementation of a public safety GIS. 1. Governance; 2. Standard Operating Procedures; 3. A solid data infrastructure; 4. Appropriate use cases and methods; and 5. Training. NAPSG has created a framework for guiding local governments in each of these five areas.

This past year, GIS advocates and their public safety practitioner counterparts across five adjacent counties in southern California initiated discussions with the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS about how to leverage these two significant assets to advance the NAPSG vision of robust GIS support for public safety at the local level.
