Coastal Drainage Analysis and Modeling with Fractals Author: Dean Chiang PMD10, 75 Hawthorne Phone: 415-744-1935 In an estuary watershed delineation effort along Southern California coastal region, fractal dimension of drainage basins were calculated and tested as a quantitative, statistical method for shape analysis and automatic evaluation of support areas created for point sources on low relief surfaces. Various analytical approaches, including multi-resolution and automatic custom procedures for modeling localized drainage areas of large set of closely-clustered sediment sample sites will be discussed. |
